The Translational Neuropathology Research Laboratory, led by Dr. Lee, is focused on studying the mechanisms that linke genetic and epigenetic alterations in VCP and C9orf72 which affect downstream neurodegenerative disease pathologies in tauopathies such as FTLD-tau and Alzheimer's disease and TDP-43 proteinopathies such as FTLD-TDP and amyotrophic lateral sclerosis. We use a variety of methods including neuropathology, biochemistry, molecular genetics, transcriptome analyses, cell culture, and mouse modeling to uncover basic mechanisms of neurodegeneration.
